I'm always off with my kids

Hi all just wanted to share a bit of a common issue im sure we all have. I started a new job this month and I've barely even been in I work part time but I managed to catch covid and now my child is poorly and I'm off work again! Does anyone ever feel guilty about the amount of time they have to take off with their kids when they're poorly!? I can't send them to anyone if they are unwell as all my friends are parents who don't want their kids catching bugs aswell, feel like my new work are going to get annoyed if I have any more time off as my hours are so little anyways. How do you guys navigate it when your kids are poorly?? My dad works full time and he's the only parent I have so he couldn't take them for me and their dad lives 3 hours away 😭

Why do you feel guilty? Are you using annual leave or are you using emergency leave for an emergency? Or unpaid leave, if your company offers that?

@Snowiscold I don't know tbh I just feel like I shouldn't be off work they're understanding about it and I think when your off with kids it's unpaid, not sure about covid but I just feel so bad leaving them understaffed and I don't want to leave a bad impression when I've just started work as I'm still in my probationary period, I don't want to lose my job because I've been off too much 😩

Their dad needs to step up, who decided that he's 3 hours away?

It is awful at first, it will get better but I know that doesn't help you now

@LefttoherownDevizes yeah hate that I feel bad for having time off work 🤦🏻‍♀️
Well I moved back to my family when we split up and I was pregnant with our second, he did say he wanted to move closer but then he met his fiancé so will stay that way now.

I had this problem too. I felt bad as my boss didn't know me very well at the time it was hideous the schools closed down when BJ announced the night before.

You will be fine OP. There's nothing you can do people forget what it's like once there kids are older. Good luck in your new job!

We had a new lady start at my place and had to delay her start date for 2 weeks the night before she was due to start because her son got covid. Then she got it and then her husband was taken very ill but we know she is absolutely the right fit for our team and this situation is only temporary so it isn't a problem at all. It is the way of the world at the moment is how we see it.
