So if you applied for a job and the closing date was last Friday, when would you expect to hear from them??

I have applied for my dream job, it would change my life and I would LOVE doing it and be really good at it. But my CV could be slightly stronger, that said I would be suprised if they didn't consider it a bit any way as my experience is quite specific and would suit the requirements of the job to a tee.
So how long before I start to be miserable about not hearing?? I am very nervous......................................

did they not publish an interview date with the ad? lots of companies take weeks to sort recruitment out (depending on the job) so i wouldn't worry until a few days before the interview date. hopefully they'll let you know either way though won't they?

CarmenerryChristmas · 05/12/2007 18:32

Oh no they didn't include an interview date. I was going to say they are a small company but actually they are not that small so, yes, it could take a couple of weeks I suppose. I have no idea how many people have applied.

Where I work does all of its recruitment through a bigger organisation that has its own HR team (massive)- we're sort or an offshoot of them- and they are very efficient. Their jobs have a Friday deadline, letter sent out a week later so arrive about 10 days later. I think the earliest I'd expect to hear is a week later, more like two weeks. Good luck, sounds like something you really want.

Was it an advert? If it's an advert in a publication it would normally be longer so don't panic yet. If an agency or something I would hope to hear sooner. Also depends very much on the type of organisation it is and the recruitment procedure they have- sometimes loads of people have to see cvs before they are shortlisted.

CarmenerryChristmas · 05/12/2007 19:56

It was an ad in a uk paper for an job in Ireland but it wasn't through an agency. So you don't reckon I should start panicking just yet?

No don't panic yet I'd say. Fingers crossed!

karen999 · 05/12/2007 21:06

Certainly don't panic! I applied for a job in August, heard in September that I had got throught the first round, attended an assessment centre in October, got through that, attended an interview in on 14 November and only found out in the last few days that I got the job - so don't panic!! I am sure you will be successful...good luck...xx

ggirlsbells · 05/12/2007 21:15

well I applied for a job and the closing date was 26/11 and I got a letter today for an interview ,so I would give them some more time before you despair.

good luck

Thanks Flowery!! Am really chuffed as I think it's going to be an intersting and challenging role! At least I will finally be using my degree!

Hope you are well. I love reading your posts - it keeps me up to date with employment law!Much easier reading your posts than sitting through a 2 hour lecture...thankfully no longer have to do that!

flowerysantassack · 06/12/2007 20:08

Sounds fab! And I'm so glad to hear my posts are more user-friendly than a lecture...
