Talk me out of doing something stupid please

I need to be talked out of resigning. It would be very unwise of me to resign as I will (hopefully) be going on adoption leave in a few months and not going back. If I resign now I will miss out on various things while I'm on leave, like non-contributory pension, health insurance, statutory adoption pay.

But I am unusually pissed off with work. Someone in my team gave an exec my mobile phone number. It's my private mobile, I don't have or need a work one. I don't work on Wednesdays. And to top it off it wasn't even one of the nice execs that I get on with, it was someone that everyone in the team knows can be a pain in the neck.

I sent a snotty email, but fortunately (or not) went through it again and took out most of the swearing and the flouncy "I quit" statement. I still feel like quiting though.

Don't quit!

And how exciting about adoption leave!

Well they haven't actually said they have a child, but the SW is unusually anxious to get us approved a couple of months earlier than she originally thought. And she has been asking some quite specific questions about how we would handle certain background/health uncertainties. Which is hopeful.

Pack it in...[slap]
Grin and bear it for while longer and things will be so much better when you have your adoption leave. good luck x

Don't resign...hang on in there and just bar the exec's number on your phone..

hunkermunker · 05/12/2007 13:59

Sounds promising! Fingers crossed for you.

mishymoo · 05/12/2007 13:59

Sorry to hear you're having such a sh*t day/week!

Don't do it.... pull a sickie for a couple of days and calm down. Turn your phone off and tell the exec that the number he/she was given is your private number and you will not take work related calls on your days off.

Don't quit

content yourself with the snotty email

SheherazadetheSwedishgoat · 05/12/2007 13:59

don't quit - now tell me not to quit, i so want to and i don't even have adoption leave to look forward too!

seriously grit your teeth and think of nice things!

bran · 05/12/2007 14:07

Yes, you're all right.

Don't quit StheSG. Get your cv out there and find a better job, then quit.

Unfortunately I can't bar the number as it comes up as "unknown" on my phone, and I can't take a couple of days off as I will be away on holiday from Saturday so I need to get all my projects in a fit state to be handled by others.

Actually, the whole holiday thing is probably what's making me loose my cool so completely. We are going to my MIL's for Christmas. I flipping HATE staying at my MIL's, but apparently it would be the worst insult possible for us to stay at a hotel instead.

I got an email apology from the guy who gave out the number, so I'm feeling slightly better now. Still annoyed, but I'll stick it out until the weekend and then see how I feel when I get back from holiday. On the whole it's a pretty cushy job, so the problem is probably more with me not wanting to work.

I'm contenting myself with pointedly not doing what I was phoned about until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.
