I am not talking about busy, although it is quite busy, I have worked in extremely busy places so I know what busy looks like.

No, I am talking about quite literally, batshit crackers. I cannot emphasise it enough . Every.Single.Fucking.Manager. tells you something different about pretty much everything. Some days I feel as if I've gone through the Looking Glass and I'll meet a White Rabbit or a
blue caterpillar smoking a hookah.

Here's a few things to go on:-

  1. Being told TO DO things differently from one minute to the next ( not even one day to the next).
  2. Told that X is a fact or what is going to happen. Next day told or discover that it's Y. The following day back to X and so on and so on.
  3. Training days planned prior to an important piece of work only to then be cancelled at the 11th hour. Replacement 'training' is reduced by about 90% and is a total shambles.
  4. Endless shit emails (I'm sure we've all been there).
  5. Annual staff survey (which we are asked to fill in about ten times). Told every fucking year we will be given feedback on said survey and proposed outcomes for change. Never happens.
  6. Useless IT department, takes ten days to do an urgent job, they cannot prioritise their way out of a paper bag.
  1. Line manager who calls endless meetings about bugger all, repeats a complete load of waffle and wants to know the ins and outs of everyones social life. End result is we know very little about our work agenda which leads to more confusion.
8) Extremely rude and useless staff who get away with being rude and useless. 9) Adding insult to injury the regular emails which then tell us to look after our mental health and tips on how to do it .. FFS Confused

If I wasn't so near retirement I would be telling them where to stick it.
Meanwhile I will just continue to scrape my brain up from the melted puddle it has become....

I am only using humour here as being angry is utterly exhausting.

Just waiting for the replies of :-
'you need to calm down'
'are you depressed?'
'why don't you change job instead of moaning'

Call me cynical but thought I'd get in there first.

I hear you Smile

Are you NHS, CS or HE?

AndyKaufmanIsAlive · 26/08/2021 23:57

Defo NHS

AndyKaufmanIsAlive · 26/08/2021 23:57

In fact are you my colleague?

GillBiggeloesHair · 27/08/2021 05:24

Sounds like my experience in the CS. Totally normal but very stressful.

Chiffandbip · 27/08/2021 05:37

Sounds exactly like the primary academy chain I’ve just left. Unbearable!

Rolypolybabies · 27/08/2021 05:38

Oh hi I think we work together Grin

MrsLargeEmbodied · 27/08/2021 05:57

headless chickens?

lannistunut · 27/08/2021 06:01

Same at my place op, is amazing at times. You have to laugh or you'd cry. I look at them going in ridiculous circles and I just don't understand wtf they are doing.

Arriettyborrower · 27/08/2021 07:00

NHS, has to be.

Am living a variation of this.

Peeceandquite · 27/08/2021 07:02

Haha, my first thought was NHS too

RubyFowler · 27/08/2021 07:04

Yes OP are you NHS?

YouAreShoutingAtTea · 27/08/2021 07:48

Are you my co worker?? I’m not in the NHS but a Housing Association and I can’t cope anymore, and is all due to management, I’ve been desperately looking for a new job and this thread does not give me hope that the grass is greener outside :(

Parsley1234 · 27/08/2021 07:55

Civil service my bet god I lost my businesses in the pandemic have always been self employed all my life had to get a job. Oh.My.God. Do people actually work in such nonsense places I’m on annual leave from next week and I’m sick today not exactly sick but sick of my work place when I get back just for fun I am going to delete every email and wait and see if I miss anything such a fucking joke substandard at best

Runrigdan · 27/08/2021 07:59

NHS, got to be. I recognise the annual survey and regular mental health emails. Deleted about a hundred of the little fuckers yesterday.

twilightcafe · 27/08/2021 08:02

Describes my experience in Further Education down to a tee.
I had to leave in the end. I could not trust those 🤡 in management with my sanity or earnings potential.

Parsley1234 · 27/08/2021 08:08

Oh my god the best rubbish is out well being garden a garden you say how nice well it would be except it’s virtual fux sake what clowns get paid to imagine literally this crap

Kitchy40 · 27/08/2021 09:38

NHS here and this describes it totally.

shadypines · 27/08/2021 12:23

Ah thanks everyone you have supplied wine and choc in abundance with your replies Grin.
I had to chuckle at everyone saying NHS, funnily enough I have done 20+ yrs NHS but this is education. Honestly, where I am now makes intensive care look like a tea party, at least in ICU I was a headless chicken who knew what they were doing (on the whole!).
Last week was so bad I was literally being paid to be driven round the bend as I was unable to do any effective work.

shadypines · 27/08/2021 12:25

From what you lot are saying, the NHS must have got a lot worse since I was last there, is that due to technology or other things, out of interest?

It was bad when I was there but in the main it was staffing problems, just wondered if there are other things in the mix now.

(Pours out a large glass of wine..)

OP posts:
Fncottonrrrrgh · 27/08/2021 12:37

Sounds like where I used to work. Your analogy fits it to a tee.

shadypines · 27/08/2021 12:38

I'm very sorry Tea, it wasn't my intention to dishearten anyone. More so just to offload with anyone who was in a similar boat.

I am sure there must be places to work where people can communicate straightforwardly, have a good idea of what they are doing and work alongside others effectively to get a job done. I'm just not sure where.

OP posts:
Parsley1234 · 27/08/2021 12:39

I raise you a youth hub opened up with space for one person and no WiFi 🤔🤔🤔🤔
What about a complex needs lead that has had 3 people leave on their first day as no proper structure in place
Never mind go sit in the virtual garden smell the virtual flower embrace diversity as long as it isn’t the white underclass and wring your hands about what we can do - the answer is nothing 🤷‍♀️

shadypines · 27/08/2021 12:43

Parsley, you have my utmost sympathy and it sounds like you could indeed win the 'Batshit workplace poker game' ...if it won't send you right over the edge..could I gently ask you about the virtual garden?

(pours out a G&T)

OP posts:
poorbuthappy · 27/08/2021 12:47

Whatever you do don't come into the private sector.
It's just bad.
Me and my colleague on teams everyday..."Well we get paid regardless..." It's our mantra and literally the only thing we have to try and keep us sane.
