Any teachers out there who can help with mat leave question?

I started my mat leave in mid August and am returning to work in the summer holidays. I am returning to teaching part time. Should my full time teaching rate apply for the summer holidays and my part time rate start on 1 Sept, or does my part-time pay kick in from my return-to-work date in the summer holidays? Genuinely not sure where I stand on this.

School business manager here, I would do the former. If you had been teaching the class rather than on maternity, your pay would be 100% till 1st sept

Depends what you agreed. I worked full time and returned to work for a week in July ( after mat leave) and then reduced to part time after the holiday, so received full pay over the summer hol.

So my mat leave was from Oct 1st 2019 yo July 18th 2020, if that makes sense then went part time from the sept 2020

Contracts/resignation dates run to 31 August, so I'd expect your pay to be full time for the holidays

Thanks @DellaPorter. I hoped that would be the case. Do you know whether that is at the school's discretion, or if that's a rule for teachers on maternity leave?

Give your return to work date as the start of the holidays, get paid full time for the hols, then go part time from September.

@TheBitchOfTheVicar Thank you, that is a very good point. I wouldn't put it past my school to try and bring it forward, so that is a great point to raise.

@User5827372728 Yes, this is what I am worried about! Nothing was ever specifically agreed about when part time pay would start. I just assumed it would be 1 September. I definitely won't leave these things to chance if there is ever a DC2!

You need to get in writing when your part time contract starts. They could do either.

DellaPorter · 15/08/2021 22:24

It's a question of the contract you have agreed with the school. Have they written to confirm the part time arrangement and when it starts? It can't really be other than 1st Sept though.
