Go with my heart or with my head?

So I have been a SAHM for 14 years & I am planning on going back to work in 2 years when my youngest starts school. I don't have any formal education but I have lots of work experience in jobs that I just did to get by but none I particularly loved. I have been accepted into 2 college courses & I've no idea which one to chose. One is business administration which I think is the sensible option but it doesn't excite me. The other is Culinary Skills which I would love to do but I don't know if this is just because I love the idea of learning this subject. I'll be mid 40's by the time I'm going back to work & I'm not sure if I'd be crazy to consider training as a chef. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

I'd go with your heart. Maybe you won't be a production chef at a Michelin star restaurant but it might open doors you didn't know - e.g to work at an artisan bakery doing patisserie, making keto packed lunches and selling them to gyms, anything!

Also might be worth checking out apprenticeships if there are any you fancy near you - they're for all ages and you get paid too.

(you've put others first for so long, it's time to put yourself first)

Could you do business or administration classes too somehow? For example small courses on Futurelearn, Coursera etc.

Looking ahead, are you going to want a job that utilizes the course you're about to invest your time into doing? I would say go for the business administration course as there's more scope to find a job that will fit in with your family life - working in hospitality will make that aspect harder. Also, compare salaries and possible progression etc.

Culinary skills is likely to lead to a job in catering, which is likely to be hours they might be quite antisocial with a family.

Business admin more likely to be office hours jobs.

Heart for sure

Thanks for the replies. I've decided to go with the sensible option of administration & do the culinary as a hobby.
