Hi,

I am just wondering if anybody has any experience or knows of any stories of anybody leaving the British army before their four year period is up?

TIA

What rank/role is it with a 4 year commitment?

How long have they left to push?

alixxx1 · 06/06/2021 20:59

@mpsw I'm not sure of the rank, but I know he's one year in to engineering x

How old? And what stage are they at? Actually in the regiment yet or still in basic training?

alixxx1 · 06/06/2021 21:10

@MichelleScarn 30 years old, one year in to engineering. Still in some form of training so not at base yet. Won't be at base for another 8 months so still at training base x

If had been under 3 months could have given 4 days notice but if its been a year am not sure, I think if still on training they need to have a chat with their CO.

As in make an official request to speak to the Commanding Officer, as its their decision. Why do they want to leave?

Sunbird24 · 06/06/2021 21:57

They need to find out what the return of service is on any training they’ve done so far. Some are 18 months, some are 3 years. Standard notice period is 12 months even if there’s no return of service and it can be pretty tough to get out of that. May be different if still in training but only unit admin will be able to tell them exactly.

Sunbird24 · 06/06/2021 21:58

Just seen the post about still in training. Please don’t go straight to the Commanding Officer without first speaking to the instructors.

MichelleScarn · 07/06/2021 06:52

@Sunbird24 is definitely right there, definitely speak to the instructors first, i should have been more clear in that the final decision is with the CO, I had (probably incorrectly) assumed he'd already exhausted all other avenues.
