Can anyone please tell me if i send my cv WITH application or give out on day ?x

I have to fill out application form tonight and am wondering if can take my cv to the interview (which i`m told i have got anyway next week ).Doezs anyone know what the etiquette is re this.
Can anyone recommend a good website for cv design and/or interview questions and answers.

I did a jobsearch workshop a while ago and one of the things that they tried to drum into our heads was to hold out on giving your CV for as long as possible. The reason being that HR will look for reasons to screen you out and the more info they have, the easier it is for them. So the idea is to give them your CV when you have already met the top dog and sold yourself to him/her.

However this is not always practical and as far as I know normal practice is to send your CV with the application form.

I would say - if they specifically asked for it then send it, if not don't volunteer.

If the application form covers the same basic details as the CV then don't send it as well. Have a copy to hand at interview.

I have to jump in and say I disagree completely and utterly 100% with the jobsearch workshop justaphase went on.

Your cv is an opportunity to sell yourself, your experience and your skills to a potential employer. You should emphasise on it the things which are important for the job you are applying for.

HR don't look for reasons to screen people out. If they are doing the shortlisting rather than the manager, they will look for people who have got the skills/experience they are looking for. Which you can convey on a cv or application form. People who have those skills etc will be put into a shortlist, or a pre-shortlist 'longlist', and people who don't will be screened out.
If someone wanted to work for/with me, but I felt they were holding off sending in their cv, I would immediately think it must be rubbish or they have something to hide, neither of which would endear them to me!

Sorry for rant, was just a bit and at that advice!

To OP, if it's an application form it usually means it covers everything which would normally be covered by your cv anyway. By all means take your cv (copies for you and for every interviewer) to the interview as well, but you shouldn't need to send it in advance in this instance.

I would not offer anyone an interview who did not send their CV. However saying that we don;t send out application forms. When applying for jobs myself if asked to fill out a comprehenmsive application form I treat that in place of a CV.

We had an application form someone a couple of years ago who just didn't seem to have much experience/qualifications. As we didn't have many applications she got an interview anyway and at interview it turned out she had much more experience. However this year, similar job we had around 20 applications and wanted to interview around 6 so she wouldn't have got a look in.

I would take copies to the interview but don't send it with the form unless it's been asked for. Provided everything on the CV corresponds with the form and includes everything there should be no problem. Employers tend to prefer application forms since it gives them the information they want in standard layout - but then it also makes it harder to stand out whereas a CV can be more expressive of your personality ..
