Has anyone applied for a new job on Maternity leave?

I’m at the beginning of my maternity leave (I was planning to take most, if not all, the full year off) and have seen a job in a different department to mine (I work at a university) which I am very interested in, but wondered if I’m bonkers to apply for a job when I won’t be able to start for several months.

Has anyone here applied for jobs whilst on maternity leave and how did it pan out?

I did. But I was about 3.5 months from the end of mat leave and had a 3 month notice period so it worked out fine and I didn’t actually tell them I was on mat leave at any point. I knew when I went on mat leave that I didn’t want to go back, but did wait until nearer the end to start applying.

Applying for a job within the same company/employer is probably easier though?
