If a doctor wrote to you as a HR manager or Director and advised you to make a referral to OH and access to work for a member of staff with a disability would you

  1. Respond to gp
  2. Ignore letter
  3. Make a referral to OH or access to work
  4. Have meeting with employee
  5. Do something else

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I'd meet with employee and arrange the OH referral.

@Smallgoon I think her comment was in response to me, because I shared that I'm a HR student

I gathered that too but despite the patronising tone, I wanted to point out that every established firm I've ever worked at has had a woefully poor HR dept, and my experience is that the more experienced HR professionals are the worst.

I would meet with employee and if, following that meeting it was deemed appropriate, I’d complete an oh referral. It’s odd though because usually absence would trigger a meeting and referral would be agreed with the employee. I’m not able to refer with ticking to say I’ve met with employee and they are fully briefed before process starts. If absence hadn’t triggered anything then I’d expect the employee to ask to meet with me.

I wouldn’t expect to respond to the gp as there is confidentiality on both sides and it is up to the employee to update their dr not me. OH may contact gp depending on circumstances.

So many midnight typos but hopefully get the idea.
