When did you start looking for a new job after birth of baby?

I’m 7 months pp and planned to take off the full 12 months but finances have been hit this year meaning we can’t afford that and il need a nee job come 9 months

I could go back to old job but it was shockingly bad (don’t believe in virus, big on micromanagement, taking advantage of government help schemes during pandemic when they haven’t needed to)

I’m starting to look about but most recruiters are saying the companies want someone immediately and my headspace just isn’t ready for that and I need to sort out childcare

Other difficulty is I need to work part time and when I say that to recruiters they say oh sure you can do 2 days from the office and 3 from home as if that’s classed as part time.

If you knew you were changing jobs at 10 months in when would you start looking?

Did you manage to find suitable part time work in a relevant field?

What is your field? I think that plays a part. But in any case you need to look now and tell the recruiters that part time from home but still having a full working week isn’t part time at all.

I’m in construction (not site based)

It’s so strange. My specific role is in demand so there’s jobs about but every time I talk to someone about a vacancy, I always start off by saying I will need to be part time and understand if that’s not ideal so don’t want to waste anyone’s time if it’s not something that will be considered, they always come back and say - of course, you can do some in the office and the rest of the week from home as if that’s suitable

I think you need to say I’d like to work x hours or 3 days or something like that rather than part time.
