Current employer wants my 10 year old CV?!

My current employer has asked for a copy of my CV so that they have on file for an upcoming audit.

I’ve worked for them for over 10 years so I don’t have one! Is this a genuine HR requirement does anyone know?

Depends. In care jobs, the employer has to follow "best practice" when recruiting staff, and probably would have to show they checked your qualifications and experience at the time of hiring you. But although they check references, I'm pretty sure they are not kept on file, especially not for 10yrs. Just a note saying that the references were taken and were acceptable.

It up to the company what they want from their employees. It's not a law but it seems like a reasonable request. Have they given you more info on the purpose of the audit?

Do you have a job description? Copy that with your employment dates.

Do you work in education?

People in my organisation have said something about 10 year career history for staff but I haven't been able to find out where this has come from.

A CV isn't adequate for any role that requires a DBS It needs to be an application form with an explanation of any gaps

I had this with a job last year (and I’m self-employed). I said I could write a new one, but I didn’t have access to the one from 12 years ago. They then asked me to write a new one and put 2008 on it! I obviously declined.

Are you sure they want an old one? I have to submit a CV annually in my role for auditing purposes - we do it with our current role included so it’s up to date.

For certain ISO standards they have to show competence for qualified employees- so case studies or breakdowns of specific work or projects to show that your development has continued (CPD) or to show the details of how they have performed, lessons learned etc through their work to show competence or that they knew what procedures to follow of there were any issues.

My work requires a new cv every few years. To show competency as above

It doesn't take long to knock one up. And just add any cpd you've done in the last few yesrs to it.
