I have been googling for a while and can't find a simple answer, some mention the work could be counted as KIT days others mention something else.

I am going to be taking adoption leave from work next month, we get enhanced leave so the first 26 weeks will be fully paid, then will go to SMP thereafter. I also have my own business (sole trader) and since this is all online and only takes about 5-10 hours a week would like to keep doing this throughout, or at least in the last 6 months when the pay drops.

Would working for myself mean I can't qualify for either the enhanced leave or the statutory pay thereafter?

I believe you can; as if you have a second job you can stop and start the leave at different times. Taking the full leave on one job and a minimum of 2-6 weeks on the other. Do you qualify did SMA on the self employed job too?
