Can't finish qualification (apprenticeship)

My daughter has just lost her job/apprenticeship. She is half way through a two year course. The reason is that the company she works for has recently been sold and the new owner says he can't afford to keep an apprentice. Does anyone know if they can do this? It seems really unfair. Thanks.

Oh how horrible for her

Her apprenticeship provider should be helping her. What is her apprenticeship in?

Surely the work she has counts. she may need to find a new place to do her apprenticeship, can the trainer help her with this. I think you and your daughter need to phone the local businesses to see who is willing to take her on. The fact she is halfway through may help.

The learning provider (a college) says there's nothing they can do.

It's dental nursing. The local dentists she's spoken to are saying that they aren't sure they can take someone on half way through. You need to do assessments/learning log type things of patients and their treatment and obviously she won't be able to finish this as the patients will be different at different practice. And they don't all use the same exam board.

It's a bit strange that employers are allowed to do this. A large part of the cost of apprenticeships are paid by the government and surely they want people to finish and get a qualification?

That is so useless of the college. Yes a bee group of patients but that shouldn't be an insurmountable problem at all

This happens often with the veterinary nursing apprenticeship for many reasons and they have a similar practical log. It requires the provider to shift who the assessor/clinical coach is.
