Temp contract becoming perm - what happens to holiday?

What happens to unused holiday from a temporary contract, when a permanent contract is offered by the same employer?

In my mind, the temp contract has to be ended properly, eg notice given and holiday paid, and the perm contract starts fresh with holiday entitlement calculated from the first day of the perm contract. The unused holiday from the temp contract cannot be transferred to the perm contract.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Thanks.

No not at all. it would normally just convert to being permanent, with continuous service.

Yes, it would just be a contract variation and continuous service from when you originally started. Are you wanting to convert accrued holiday to cash? You could ask for this I suppose, but no obligation on your employer to offer.
