Signed off sick (stress) and looking for a new job..

My brain is garbage at the moment. If I was signed of sick with stress, would I be legally OK to look for and apply for new jobs? Would I have to declare this in an interview?

Sorry I meant my brain is garbage and that's why I couldn't figure out if I was allowed to. Not that I'm off because my brain is garbage. Otherwise I'd be off most of my life

No you dont have to discuss it at interview and yes you legally can look for a new job. Sorry your in this position to feel that way.

Legally there’s nothing which will land you in trouble for applying for new jobs.
You are unfit for work - not unfit to shop/walk/internet/apply for jobs

Great thank you so much for replying.

Unfortunately the John I'm applying for and would like to get doesn't even close for applications until 3rd October. I'm not signed off with stress yet. Still signed off with something else. Just trying to figure out my 'game plan' for getting out

Good luck to you! Hope you find a job that makes you happy.

Just be aware that most employers ask about sickness absence in references and a lengthy absence could see any job offer rescinded.

(Did it yesterday.)

I have just started a job I was offered on sick leave, from another job.

Was slightly different for me as my new employer has wanted to me go there a while and wasnr bothered about the absence.

I would just prepare yourself for then asking abour absences and reason for it.

My last job dont even know I have a new job. I just handed my notice in.

Thanks guys.

I may apply for this job, go back on Monday and see how long I can stick it out for.

If I got offered a job, would accepting then getting signed off sick be a big no no?

I'm 32, been in full time employment since I was 16. (This is my fourth job) And have never felt like this about a job before. It just makes me feel so sick thinking about going there. Never realised how quickly it could change from 'im really no enjoying this job any more' to 'its badly affecting my health' !

It's fine but why not quit if you get another job? Is it the pay? Be aware it could appear in a reference or impact any reference.

sparklefarts · 25/09/2019 17:25

Oh no sorry, I meant get signed of sick for my notice period.
