just had a little end of the month review and my boss hinted that a "colleague" has made a few hints that I am leaving 5 mins early - I get the feeling this is not the first time he has either.
I am stunned - I maybe left a few mins early but NOT intentionally at all, due more to a dodgy watch, it must have been more like 2 mins. My god I have been back a month and that is the feedback I get. I can't stand my Boss sometimes, she has a heart made of ice and obviously doesn't like me deep down . It is a v small office, how do I deal with this - at the moment i am just blanking him, what I want to do at leaving time is now say - right does everyone make it 5.30? but that seems ridiculous, I am sooo agry and upset and rather ashamed of this petty sh++. I want to leave but we need the money now - I have a plan but have to stay until xmas really.

Co-ordinate your watch immediately you next see your boss. Don't be angry. Say you are so sorry that you have idavertantly been leaving a few minutes earlier and that obviously you won't do it again. Be the bigger person. The other on eis an idiot!

flowerybeanbag · 01/08/2007 16:29

agree with Nab3, colleague is clearly idiot who is not busy enough if is timing your departure.
Just apologise, check your watch against your boss's and try not to allow someone else being petty to get to you if you can.

that is kind of what I said to her - that it was a misunderstanding, butI got the impression she thought I was trying to pull a fast one because of getting home to relieve the daycare.

i hate clockwatchers. that is so annoying! it says more about their insecurity than you.

LaBoheme · 01/08/2007 16:32

apparently he said something like - ah can I leave now then? after I left to draw attention to the fact. What an utter bastard.

If your watch is a little dodgy (fast) surely you have been starting work a little early too ?

Hasn't your "colleague" noticed this too ?

What line of work are we talking about, do hours count or is the amount of work that you actually get done during the day equally important and measurable ?

KitsAndBits · 01/08/2007 16:33

I would go up to the 'clockwatcher' and say

'What time do you have then? Just wanted to make sure were on the same time, wouldnt want one of us getting out of here any earlier than we should hey? Maybe we should phone '123' to make sure were both acurate?'

flowerybeanbag · 01/08/2007 16:34

She may be thinking that LB - it is possible that she has had experience of someone else doing that for that reason previously. No excuse for being naggy with you though.

Probably best thing you can do is apologise, sychronise watches and prove her wrong. If you want to leave anyway you will want to make your last few months as problem free and stress free as possible so if you can rise above any pettiness it will be easier.

LaBoheme · 01/08/2007 16:37

no it's not the kind of work where it makes a blind bit of difference, I think I will say before i leave - does everyone make it 5.30? god I really need this shit like a hole in the head.
you are right fbb I just want to bow out soon - love your name btw

May be worth pointing out that they should be busy with their own work and not have time to notice what time you leave...?

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 01/08/2007 16:53

Buy a mahoosive alarm clock and set it to ring at 5.30pm....when it dings loudly and disturbs the twat, smile cheerily and say oooh bless the inventors of alarm clocks, now I can make sure I'm leaving bang on time! Ta'ra!

What a twat! We have those in my place too...the thing is, they don't factor in when you turn up early and crack on with work do they! Sodding employers!!

LaBoheme · 01/08/2007 17:17

i know i know - alarm clock is a GREAT idea. I have arranged to leave with a girl and call over the office to her - what time do you make it ---- ?

LaBoheme · 01/08/2007 17:26

OP posts:
Katy44 · 01/08/2007 17:26

Unless you work in a job that needs set hours this kind of nit picking is completely pointless and only winds people up!
Anyway, 4 minutes to go

flowerybeanbag · 01/08/2007 17:32

It's 17.32, hope you've gone home

Katy44 · 01/08/2007 17:34
