Need some advice on my current job as I am seriously hacked off and not sure what to do. I have been there for almost 3 years, and have never asked about my pay (which is fairly low). I approached my boss last week to see if there is chance of progression. He acted extremely nice and said he’d push it with the directors as I deserved it. He said he’s give them the figure I was thinking, and explain that I am doing more in my job now. He also explained that the wages in this job are significantly lower than other places due to the area it’s in, and that pay isn’t something that is changed frequently. Today, he came back to me and said that he had asked the directors, and they are being very vague and distant. He said that they can only review pay at the end of the financial year (which is 4 months away). He also said that the figure isn’t clear, and he has no idea whether they will accept it or not. He also said they are unsure of how I’ve progressed, or actually what I even do in my job, which is a marketing/content writing role. Is it reasonable for me to be slightly mad? I have been job hunting for a while at this place, as many things here have annoyed me. Are they just saying this to keep me here longer? Honestly don’t know if I want to wait til October for a “maybe” when other companies offer more. Is this the correct way for a company to be run?? Opinions would be appreciated, thanks!
