Legal requirements regrading training outside of work

Hi are there any legal requirements regarding training outside of work? Basically a company I work for is being taken over by another company, I’m used to getting paid for all trainings and meetings etc but our new employer says we do not get paid for any training! But I have been told the following-
If the training is compulsory you should be paid as if I work day 20 hours at MW plus 2 hours unpaid my working day will be below MW! Is this correct? Any further advice would be most welcome! Thanks x

I'm not an expert, but I had this at one job - we had to do a food safety course on a saturday and were expected to do it without pay.

I phoned the bosses and said what you have said - that this would take our pay below minimum wage.

They paid us for the hours spent at the course plus travel expenses :)
