Starting new job. But new opportunity & interview in my first week

Like the title say... I start a new job next week, it wasn’t what I really wanted but I need more hours than where I currently am will offer. So I accepted the job. But since accepting the job I have an invite to interview to something that I really want to do and will get my foot in the door to the career I want long term. AIBU to go for the interview and after a week say to the first company thank-you but I’m leaving if job number 2 turns up trumps?
I hate letting people down, but job 1 will not no that I have interviewed for job 2 so will not burn bridges if I don’t get it.

I'd go to the interview definitely. Then agonise over the dilemma if you get it! If it's really your chosen/intended career path I certainly wouldn't pass up the possibility of having the opportunity.

Just do it. These things happen.

If you can go for the interview without having to take time off, then go for it. Shit happens, and you have to look after number one. Good luck!

Thank you. I’ve just found out I got the job. Now just need to tell the job I started on Monday that I won’t be returning 😳 email? Phone? I don’t know what to do

Oh well done. I'd ring them if you can but they nay ask you to put it in writing.

Do you have an update OP? Anticipating a similar situation here...

Noeyedeerdear I emailed my previous position the day of finding out I got the position I wanted. I’d only worked 3days. I don’t start my new job for 6-8 weeks but I instantly felt better once I said I wasn’t going back rather than leading them on. When is your interview?
