This will be quite a long story but I’ll try to keep it as short as possible.
I recently decided it was time to leave my family business where I have worked for over 10 years and apply for other jobs.
I really wanted to work in a school office environment as my current skills worked well for the role but everywhere wanted experience with a software program I don’t have.
I decided to volunteer for a school that my husband works at which is around 1 hours drive from where we live. I started work 2 days a week and really enjoyed it. There was a job available in the office before I started volunteering there but it was taken and at the time I wasn’t in a position to accept the full time hours.
During this time I’d had an interview with another company (not a school) and was waiting to have second interview with them.
A few days before the second interview the school called me and asked if I would be willing to accept the full time role as the previous hire had quit. In the conversation with the office manager I was told I would be paid for my 2 days going forward but if I could do any additional days in the interim that would help them out greatly as they were struggling. I said I would be happy to accept and would see if I could do any further days in the meantime and get back to them (I was still doing 3 days at the family business at this time.)
I then had my second interview at the other company which also offered me a job and they were willing to accept me part time 3 days until the new year when I would be expected to go full time. They also agreed to raise the wage for me as they understood that the school were willing to offer me a little more money wise.
I was then called by the headteacher of the school
