Any idea which retail companies are great employers, fair, pay well, and quite relaxed? Or am I asking too much?

I do a second PT job with Sainsburys at present and so far (only been there about 7 weeks) they seem fair employers and the pay is decent for the job I do. My job isn't relaxed as it has speed targets to meet so we work like mad, but colleagues in other jobs seem relaxed within reason. There are frequent searches and there are lots of rules but so far it's been fine.

Thanks Dead. What do you mean by searches?

In the stores or office for retailers?

I work in the head office for asda. Absolutely love it.

In the store.

itsthemenopausenotme they conduct spot searches of employees and have the right to also search your locker and your vehicle if it is on company property; nothing to worry about - just to prevent losses through theft. My vehicle hasn't been searched, but believe it happens if you have your vehicle key in your pocket on the shop floor when searched.

Wow! Not very trusting then ...

I was told John Lewis and Waitrose are very good to their staff, everyone becomes a shareholder but I haven't got direct experience.

You can register with glass door, it's a website where people rate their job and employer

Wow! Not very trusting then ...

About 30% of shrinkage is down to staff theft, so it would sense to check the people in store who you have some control over.

All employers search bags - it's nothing new. I was searched after my Saturday job at Debenhams in the 90s.

Notacluewhatthisis · 22/11/2018 11:01

It's not that they aren't trusting.
It's that they employ so many people, a portion of them will be thieves. All these stores suffer with staff theft. So it's not not trusting. It's realistic.

It's their responsibility to stop it. The bigger the company losses are, the higher their prices are for their customers.

Bababoo13 · 22/11/2018 11:01

Yes staff searches happen on every retail company

DeadCertain · 22/11/2018 11:55

As everyone else has said it's standard and the reality is that employees account for a good deal of shrinkage.
