Hello,

I'm trying to gauge how much freelance writers in London charge for their work per 1,000 words, for example.

I've been asked to write copy for a medical marketing company I've been working for and I'm trying to find the right rate to charge.

I know that the going rate per day in London is £340, or £42 an hour, but the company want to pay by the job rather than the hour. (Going on what they pay me to edit, they will want to pay as little as they can get away with.)

The copy is for private practice doctors so quite technical. I'm familiar with a lot of their terminology as I've been editing their work for the past six months, and the company told me that I am their best editor!

I don't want to blow my own trumpet but I do have very good credentials - 30 years' experience of writing and editing in-house for the most highly regarded company in my industry, but now I'm looking to branch out.

Many thanks!

well if I were you I would work out how much time it would take you to do 1000 words.

Then add a premium for your skills & experience.

And turn that into a job rate.
