what is the best response you have received to the question "Tell us what you would do in the first month?"

I've tended to go for get to know people, listen to their concerns, suggestions & priorities. I'll have read the organisation's strategic plan or similar so reference that & try to use their terminology.

Just wondering if I'm missing something obvious or there was a standout reply that impressed you?

That sounds good to me. You can’t decide on priorities until you understand who your key stakeholders are and what their priorities are, also get to know your team.
