Verbal Spat with Colleague at Train Station... Will I be sacked?

I was waiting for my train, which is always 15 minutes past and a train turns up at that time, I am on the phone and there is a massive scrum forming around the doors, which have just happened to stop in front of me.

I looked back at the board and realized this is in fact not my train, it's an earlier delayed one. I tried to get out of the scrum, apologizing, and this one woman properly huffed at me and loudly said 'oh for God's sake!' as I tried to get out.

I was so embarrassed and taken aback I said 'oh shut up, you silly horrible woman, don't be so rude'

Just came out of my mouth before I had chance to think. Looked back at the scrum and I think the woman who said it was someone in another department at work. There was also anther girl who works in a separate department there too.

I've been so upset about it all weekend. I'm afraid I'll go in tomorrow and they'll sack me for it.

Is this a sackable offense or am I being paranoid? Thing is, I don't even know who said it and it would be hard for them to know who it was directed at.

But I just worry.

She was rude, you called her out on it if indeed it was her. Honestly I wouldn't worry about what you said at all.

PerspicaciaTick · 01/07/2018 23:25

I don't imagine work will care at all.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 01/07/2018 23:27

No, of course you won’t be sacked. Stop worrying. And in the unlikely event of you being questioned about it on Monday (you won’t be), just look confused and deny all knowledge.

LEMtheoriginal · 01/07/2018 23:27

They won't give a shit and neither should youFlowers

Processedpea · 01/07/2018 23:27

No it wouldn't be sackable imo you said the right thing ! Don't stress

If you see the woman tomorrow just be light hearted about it if she says anything

Don't sweat the small stuff

You're allowed to be rude in your private life. It wasn't particularly rude and when it comes to train matters, being rude comes with the territory. Don't worry about it.

Something similar once happened to me. I was cycling to work when a car swerved in front of me very dangerously and blared its horn. I gave them the finger. Then my eyes met the driver's and I realised he worked in my department. I shat myself silently for a bit but nothing ever happened.
