Is it too late to ask for more money?

I decided to go back to work and applied and got offered a position that I wanted. That was 2 1/2 weeks ago. I verbally accepted the job (even though they offered less than I expected but out of the lot it was the one I wanted) but have only received my job offer letter, no contract or anything yet.Since then I have discovered that I am not entitled to working tax credit (I thought I would have gotten a little) and they will reduce my child tax credit when I start. The childcare for my 2 children is slightly more than I wanted to pay but it's good so I took it. I am seeing them on Friday to discuss what needs to be done to get the position up and running (it is a new position), but basically I wanted peoples opinion as to whether as I have verbally accepted the position, is it too late to ask for more money?

If you don't ask, you don't get (she said unhelpfully). As they haven't put anything in writing yet, you could ask them.
