Do all local authorities give 4 additional days? just wondering as i'm about to start working for my local authority? do they all have the same annual holiday entitlement?

Mercy · 28/04/2007 17:10

What extra days?

I've nearly always worked in Local Govt. and have never had extra days off!

ChippyMinton · 28/04/2007 17:18

Think many places add the extra days onto your regular holiday entitlement so you can take them when you like.

TwoToTango · 28/04/2007 17:36

That sounds good ChippyMinton - what is the annual holiday entitlement for local authoirity - is it 4 weeks + bank hols?
If you need to have extra time off like the week after Christmas when the schools have an extra week and no playschemes run do they let you take unpaid leave or make the time up?

gothicmama · 28/04/2007 17:38

normal some at christmas and end of May from holiday entitlement and tacked on to BH

MrsWho · 28/04/2007 21:57

Where I used to work was an extra day at Easter and the local Health authority was an extra in May BH but that was it

No, I don't think all authorities give the same days - my boyfriend gets something slightly different from me in neighbouring councils - we have a privilege day each at Christmas and Easter, although the one at Christmas isn't really a choice because unless you're in a service which has to function over Christmas much of the Council is closed anyway. And one extra day "in lieu of May Day" which doesn't have to be in May but does have to be in the right leave year.

I think national terms and conditions for local authority is 4 weeks + bank hols but different authorities also have slightly different terms in relation to extra days for those on higher grades or in some cases, all staff, or long service leave, and privilege days as mentioned above. Eg I get 3 extra days on scale 6 but if I was scale 5 or below, I wouldn't get those, and 2 extra for having worked for my employer more than 5 years, with another 3 if I stay there for 10 (that would be May 2008 for the year from May 2008-May 2009).

If you work in my LG they don't exist

UK Civil Service employees get 8 bank holidays and 2 and a half priviledge days which are Maundy Thursday afternoon, the Queens birthday and an additional day at Christmas.
