Voice Overs. Do you use them or know anyone who does?

I do voice overs now and again. Up to now I've never sought them out as I have a trade of my own, but rather people have approached me.

I want to get more voice over work. It pays well, I enjoy it, I'm good at it and the hours are fab for a busy mum. I have a very decent demo CD now. I tried to get an agent but they're all saying 'call-again-in-six-months-we-love-your-voice-but-we're-full' , so I want to crack on and represent myself.

I thought my next move would be to call round the people who make voice overs for clients and see if they'd like to hear my demo cd.

I can undercut other VOs as I wouldn't have to pay agents fees.

Thoughts? Advice?

My SIL is an actor and does VOs. She thinks that most clients who use VOs would only use an agency and would not accept 'cold calling'.

On the other hand, you've nothing to lose by trying. I would emphasise the cheapness, but you might want to reassure potential clients that you are a professional by sending proper terms and conditions etc along with your demo.
