Becoming a TA

Just wondering if anyone knows exactly which courses/qualifications I'd need to become a teaching assistant? I've googled some learning from home ones which would be ideal for me but don't know if they give you the correct qualifications, I don't want to pay for a course & it's useless.

Also any TA's want to shed some light on the job? I've worked with children before in a holiday club setting rather than a school. I've never really worked for more than minimum wage unfortunately so a low wage is not going to shock me. Are there many responsibilities outside of school times?

Thanks!

Oh good I thought people might think I'm weird going from talking about kids to animals, but yeah it would make sense that a lot of us who like working with children also like animals.

I've got a while before I have to start getting back into work or training so I'll start looking into the supply & demand of TA's around here & go from there.

If it turns out it's not a good route to take then there is lots of things I'm interested in, it's just a combination of what I can afford to train in & what I'll be able to realistically work around the kids!

You have loads of time, your baby is so young. Congratulations by the way!
I didn't even really start at looking to go back to work until my youngest started Reception so you're doing great thinking ahead already!
I also looked at doing a canine behavioural course as that really interests me and I know people locally who have hired dog behaviourists so I hope that it would be something that's in demand.

Oh god I haven't even managed to train my own dog, In my defence I got her when she was 6, and was already toilet trained, didn't chew etc, so she gave no shits about learning to sit etc!

Had a quick look on a job site & there's a fair few jobs advertised here or in the neighbouring boroughs for TA's so will keep checking over the next few months until I make my mind up whether it's worth going for it or not
