Nose piercing/dress code

Wondering if someone could offer advice.

My work dress code states no tattoos or piercings.

Can I be sacked for having my nose pierced if I take it out during work hours? Surely they can't sack me for having my nose stud in outside of work?

Did you get the job whilst you had your piercing? Or have you had the job for a while and recently got the piercing?

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:58

Had the job and then got the piercing.
Have I fucked up?

Although. Have previously had the same piercing and just had it redone. Work never knew about the original one as it was very healed.

but why would you do this? when you took the job you knew it said no piercings or tattoo's and despite knowing this went and got (or are considering getting) a facial piercing which is highly visible.
you've mentioned not fitting in, do you think this will endear you to administrative staff?
if they are looking for reason's to sack you, you have just handed them one on a silver platter.

Just wear a small stud and then a small plaster on top of it at work.

Because out2pasture, I didn't think that a dress code can apply to my personal life. It also states no jeans, but I wear them at home!

but they don't see the jeans you wear at home? but your piercing on your face is plain to see....
operative words are "you weren't thinking"
as I said if they are looking for a reason to terminate or discipline you poor judgement comes to mind.

I'm not planning on keeping the piercing in during working hours (and instead run the risk of it closing).
I'll be using makeup to cover it.

When did you get the piercing and when are you next at Work?

I'd keep it in on the way to work, pop it in a pot in your pocket at the door, discreetly pop it back in for a few minutes on breaks / loo trips etc then wear after work. Might be enough to keep the hole open.

It's not the hole they can discipline for, just the visible jewellery

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 23:18

Got it 20 years ago but had it redone the other day. Not back until sept. That sounds more doable! The hole should hopefully not be any bigger than my previous large pockmark in the same place where the hole had healed years ago.

I take it your back in work until September?

RatherBeRiding · 18/07/2017 14:45

Of course they can't take any action against you for having a piercing done, so long as you don't wear the jewellery at work. A dress code is for work only. What you wear outside of work is absolutely none of their business.

If it's only out for a few hours at a time you should be OK with the hole not closing up.
