Where do patent attorneys wanting to go part time hang out?

I'm an IP lawyer and we want to place ads to target patent attorneys to work in our virtual firm. The ideal person would be experienced, ambitious but sick of the commute and happy to work from home on a consultancy basis (so not massive pay but keep her skills up whilst seeing her family plus she'll keep the majority of money from any work she refers in).

Other than the fabulous mumsnet jobs board, does anyone know where I should advertise? Is there a rollonfriday or a women's section of CIPA?

Its always been my dream to become a patent attorney no luck. Virtual firm sounds interesting

I'd have thought it would be breaking the law nowadays to have a webpage specifically for Women's job vacancies. Equality Act and all that? Why do you need a woman specifically anyway? Plenty of men are SAHDs, you could be reducing your candidate pool significantly!

You'd have to advertise as a part time job, suitable for someone with a family.

Both those sites have a section/web page for vacancy adverts. I've just Googled them.

That's a very specialised dream amarchi!

I studied engineering undergrad, and then completed an LLB so I would have thought I was the perfect fit, unfortunately patent firms seem to think otherwise.

patentattorneyseeker · 26/06/2017 11:18

you do sound like the perfect fit....

what did you do next? What do you do now?

It's a very old-fashioned profession. The advent of things like Google Patent is going to be highly disruptive to them (to put it mildly)....

Try the TotallyLegal website - widely used for inhouse recruitment

patentattorneyseeker · 26/06/2017 11:29

that's a good lead, thanks.

I'm also obviously happy just to network and form relationships. It's going to be an ongoing thing so in many ways it's more a question of meeting people online who may become suitable for our way of working in future (or who find the idea attractive but aren't away that it exists as a possibility).

We're looking into patentlyjobvious (great site title!)

I'm a patent attorney who has worked part time in the past. The cipa jobs board is the go to site for most U.K. Attorneys. Otherwise most attorneys go through recruitment agents. Agree that this should not be targeted at women or parents - just a flexible/part time post.

FoodForMouth · 26/06/2017 11:42

Sad I started a MSc in management in intellectual property years ago but after completing the cipa papers for patent law and Trademarks I had to drop out due to family commitments. It was supposed to be my way out of lab work...Sad.

patentattorneyseeker · 26/06/2017 12:07

that's very helpful sunshine thanks! If the CIPA jobs board is where a dispirited parent longing for part-time hours would go, that's my place.

I feel your pain FoodforMouth

I was doing an OU science degree as well as the day job for three years but baby 1 put a stop to that - it was hard enough just keeping up the law work.

Are you back in the lab now?

I'm a part time patent attorney and actually lucky enough to work from home. I get contacted about a lot of jobs through Linked In or email from recruitment agencies.

2tired2bewitty · 26/06/2017 12:33

I assume you've had a chat with Dawn Ellmore?

patentattorneyseeker · 26/06/2017 13:06

Isn't Dawn Ellmore the one who made people up on Linkedin? (many apologies if it wasn't!)

No, this is not a recruitment agent role because it is for consultancy, so there is nothing in it for the agent.

Outnumbered that is great! Are you still with your firm or independent?
