Should I ask if they are going to renew my contract?

HI, I started a fixed term contract last October which runs until August. I'm a TA in a school so obviously would like to know before the holidays. Is it appropriate to ask if/when or not?
A colleague who started after me asked last week. She is in a slightly different position (I'm a class TA, she's a 1-1) and was told they'd have to let her go as they were having make cuts.
I'll also have to secure my youngest's nursery place soon if I'm to continue working there as he's pretty much F?T atm.

I'm not familiar with school budgets the timings of these decisions but it makes sense to me to ask so you, and the school, can plan ahead.

They will know if they are keeping you. Definitely ask.
