argh need a place to vent references have not been sent :(

for those that may remember me my last job was in a shed ( i kid you not) shed boss has been asked twice by my new company to supply a reference, afterthe 2nd time they ask me to chase it up. I have and have been told shed email it again and post it,of course nothings arrived :(

Job before that in a local but large chain of freezer shops with a head office HR dept and everything, yet the same thing has happened. I just called them and went ape to be told oh yes we did send that back on the 27th april. Argh

I just want this sorted so i can settle in my new role without the fear of being sacked due to unsuitable references :( my new company is massive and HR are in another city, you cant just ring them and plead your case or explain, they also will not send a 3rd reference request and the shop cant just send a random email it must be in response to one sent by my company. Im going round in effing circles and the stress is horrible.

I always play by the rules and now its not working for me, plan B is a different reference from a different employer but then im stuffed if they dont provide as my job before that the company went bust and the one before that i was 16 when i worked there!

Changing jobs rarely has not done me any favours with this one!

I dont want to get sacked but cant make people do stuff if they arent going to do it :(

For the freezer shop could you visit them and try to get them to hand you a reference on letterhead.

Re the Shed job, I'm not sure why you would expect them to do anything nice, they were appalling, selfish, and surely hell should freeze over before you go cap in hand to them for anything. I'm not blaming you, but can you just kick them to the curb and focus on your previous employers with an HR department.

Daisychain thank you, the shop does not have email nor headed paper, youd think in this day and age all stores would have but they don't and all references need to be via personnel.

Shed im prepared to forget about as long as the shop one eventually does go through. Should have walked away at the time but hey ho!
