Undue pressure in the work place and suicide

Recently found out that someone I know is seriously contemplating taking his life because of how the company he works for has treated him.

I can't imagine what he is going through and I don't know the details but he is receiving counselling.

It just made me wonder, how bad do things need to get before bosses in any organisation start to take notice of the pressure that they put their staff under before they start taking action.

Had a simillar experience. I was put under terrible terrible pressure by middle management trying to justify their jobs. I didn't fit their one size fits all criteria and wasn't a sycophantic yes man.

They made me feel useless, a problem, singled me out for shabby treatment and attempted to isolate me as a team member. I just didn't know what to do or how to rectify things and started to feel I would be better off just not existing.

It's not like it was a high powered position. I was just a very very tiny cog in a huge corporation.

Workplaces can be comprised of institutional bullies. When it's you're the one out in the cold it's such a bleak place. I tackled it by informing the Union and HR and getting the big guns involved. If I hadn't been able to do that, I shudder to think.

Hope your friend gets the help he needs and gets back on top of things soon
