A question about applying for a job whilst pregnant - maybe this should be in legal section....?

I have just seen a job advertised locally for a Nursery playleader. I have recent relevant experience and there is a strong possibility that if I apply I might be the only applicant. I will almost certainly be the only applicant with relevant experience.

However I am 20 weeks pregnant! If I apply for the job, can they turn me down? Partic if I am the only applicant?

Dh is convinced that turning someone down for a job on the basis that they are pregnant would amount to sex discrimation ...

No, it would be unlawful for them to turn you down because you are pregnant. You could claim for sex discrimination.

Beware though, they may turn you down for another reason but even so, if you think they are making excuses, document everything (at interview and after) to build up a case as it is possible to prove otherwise

That's what I thought chockim - just wanted to hear it from someone other than dh though

I have no reason to think they might turn me down, but they might be a bit p'd off that I would only work for a term then disappear off on maternity leave
