DH has an interview in Ireland tommorow - could change soooo much!

Expat - Thanks - yes, in Scotland now (West Coast so near Ireland!)

Hermykne - Good to know their is a MNetter nearby if we do go! There aren't any near where I am now (unless they are very secretive!)

He is having a nap on the sofa right now because he has to leave in the middle of the night! It is a 3.5 hour drive to Prestwick airport and his flight is at 06.50!

They like Scottish accents there .

At least, that was our experience. Well, DH's, really, as he is the Scotsman.

Apparently they like Scottish Greenkeepers as well (home of golf and all that)

It's a lovely place, it really is. VERY family-friendly.

Portmarnock is very nice indeed. Housing is very, very expensive there though. But good luck to him, I hope he gets it, Dublin is a gorgeous place to live and a wonderful place to grow up

I will definitely go for a look if he is offered the job and it does come with accomodation but I dont know what that is like yet! I have looked the town up on the web and it does look nice with good schools, a good beach etc but big bonus being near to Dublin for the shopping too! It will be weird to imagine my DSs having an Irish accent Do you find it strange that DD1 sounds so different to you?

Oh thanks Carmenere - it is a good job it comes with accommodation because we just plain couldnt afford housing there even on a new, higher wage!

My children don't sound like me. Well, at least, DD1 is the only one with a clear accent so far. She sounds like a Scot.

After a while you don't even hear it.

They'll pick up the accent at school for sure.

But it is a really nice area and if they offer you a nice house or cottage it'd be hard to say no, especially with a higher wage.

Some pals of ours got the old coachman's cottage at the edge of an estate outside Armagh and it was HUGE! Three big double bedrooms, two baths, massive kitchen and dining area, etc.

I hope DH gets to see the accomodation tommorow - would be nice to know what it is like and how big because we need room for 2 DSs (and maybe another at some point). DH is still unsure whether he wants it or not but TBH we could really do with the money! It would mean moving away from family though

Yes, but truly, as a mother myself, I cannot imagine even letting on to my daughters that I was upset they were moving when it meant they were going to have a better quality of life for themselves and their children, if that proves the case.

It's hard, I know, but as a mother, I want my children to have the best quality they can.

Even if that means living some distance from me.

Sad, but hey, that's life!

very true expat! The fact is that where we live right now is lovely and the people are lovely but there is no way up for DH - he has the highest position he can hold in his field in this area and if he wants to progress/earn more we have no option but to move. There will also be more for my DSs to do and better prospects for them I think. However DH might not even get the job so we will just wait and see! Thanks.

And really, it's a pretty cheap flight over for a visit!

Schneebly my family all think it is hilarious that dd has an English accentI mean what exactly do they expect
And to put your mind at rest I fly back to Ireland at least 8-10 times a year, it's really doable.

I do have people who ask me all the time, particularly at work, if my children have Scottish accents.

Um, what other accent would they have?

I'm the only person they hear with this one.

As DH points out, 'You're the foreigner, not them.'

Portmarnock would be lovely - I hope the accomodation is good as I can't see any other reason not to go! Re Scottish accents in Ireland - apparently the biggest demand for mornining after pills in Dublin is the day after Ire v Scot rugby matches. Lots of very posh north Dub ladies will swoon at your dh!

Well just to let everyone know that the interview apparently went well and the house is a nice detached cottage/bungalow with a big garden. DH did hear that someone who already works there was being interviewed for the position as a promotion so dont know what chance he stands - the last interviews are today and apparently they are making another shortlist this afternoon so we might hear something today - fingers crossed for DH!

God I feel really nervous!!
