Oh, how exciting! You could come to meet ups here, bloss!

I hope someone with good IT knowledge can answer your questions. And can you delay the decision for a week or so while the mumsnet cogs grind into gear?

The IT industry is bouyant enough - not peaking but reasonably steady. Winchester is a 30 mile commute away from M4 corridor, close to Southampton. I'd have thought he'd be OK to find something, even without qualifications, and he can still do MSc when he gets here. He could check out some of the IT agencies on the web for more of an idea about what's available and who's recruiting.

The NHS is always looking for IT people Bloss and there is nearly always work there. THey do not seek formal qualifications either. Let me know and I will se if I can find anything out about your area.

bump for bloss!

BrummieOnTheRun · 23/01/2007 08:08

Bloss, IT's such a varied area with differing skill sets so not sure if this is relevant but have just moved to s.coast and have been surprised at number of IT vacancies around Brighton. (I'm not in IT so it's a pain in the ass, ha, ha!). Might be too far to travel, though.

have you tried looking at the large recruitment websites? good for getting an idea of # of jobs available, required experience and salary levels in different areas. Monster.co.uk and totaljobs.co.uk are 2 that come to mind.

good luck.

Congratulations on your job offer firstly.

When you say money isn't great does that mean unless dh gets an excellent job too that you are buggered.

We're looking somebody with a web/networks/server farm management type background at the moment - although unfortunately it's nowhere near Winchester, and it's to start asap, not September. But judging from the dearth of suitable applicants there isn't exactly a surplus of people around at the moment.

nearlyfourbob · 23/01/2007 17:48

I would say you do it, and he knocks off the study he was going to do anyway and it will be a winner all around.

Bloss the NHS also offers part time contracts and here is a link to NHS jobs. jobs
