Not sure wehter it is worth applying for this job...advice please

Just seen a job ad for a healthcare assistant at local hospital. It is in the paediatric outpatients dept.

Thing is, it is only 10 hours a week over 2 days so I wouldn't get any help with childcare.
Now I would possibly not need any childcare. My mum is very comitted to helping me out and Ds starts school in sept anyway, plus i think the hours may be something like 9:30 - 2:30.

Oh I can also walk it there and back, and would pass school too so travel wouldn't be a problem.

Anyhow, as I said, i'd not be entitled to WTC as it's less than 16 hours a week. By the looks of things, i'd still be entitled to full housing benefit and council tax benefit plus some Income support.

I think i'd only be about £25 a week better off, but it's a job i'd like and could give me valuable work experiance should I ever make it to uni to train as a nurse ??

So apply or not , what do you think ???

Could be a useful step onto the ladder and they may be able to up the hours to 16 once you have started? Sounds good for you, practically. Good luck!

I think i'm a bit put off by the fact that i'd still be recieveing full HB and CTB which is silly I know if i'd still be entitled.

What i mean is that I kinda wanted to be able to start paying some of my rent.....silly aren't I.

My mum could probably cover holidays too yep. She works shifts, different each week, and they are quite felxible if you ask nicely.

If one of the kids were ill then not sure tbh, either xp or my mum would probably have them I suppose.

Will apply and see anyway. Last time I applied for a HCA position there, the hours were nothing like stated once i got there.
I didn't get it, but the lady interviewing me did say to apply again if another HCA position came up so there we go.

That'll be 2 job applications in less than a week......am on a roll LOL

As has been pointed out - once you are in, then you have a much better chance of increasing your hours etc. And sod the money thing - as long as it doesn't make you worse off financially, then it's a great thing to do - you will be better off in terms of confidence, doing something for yourself, building up experience etc etc - but I'm sure you know all that!!

Go for it Emma!! Its a fantastic opportunity to get your 'foot in the door'.

When you are eventually ready to go to uni to do nursing, you could be seconded which would mean you wouldnt have to live off this pittance of a bursary that they give us!!

I would imagine also that although its advertised as 10hrs, im sure after a short period they would offer more hours, which would bump you up to the 16 hrs a week needed to get childcare costs paid.

forgot to say- although you wont be rushing out to buy a sports car with the extra income- you will get some self esteem and feel fab about yourself- which is priceless after all of the shit you have had to put up with.

Oh and I wasn't sniffing at having an extra £100 a month at all. My main worry was that it wouldn't make me better off enough to start contributing towards my rent and council taxm which for some odd reason I would like to be able to do.

Anyway, thats this one and the library one I have applied for now, so fingers crossed that I at least get interviews.
