Leaving my job without a new one to go to....

It's a completely stupid thing to do, right?

I have my probationary review tomorrow so the whole thing could be moot anyway!

I can't bear the thought of working another hour, let alone another day with my line manager. She's truly awful.

I have already started looking for something else and I have four interviews scheduled over the next two weeks.

If she doesn't bin me off at the meeting tomorrow, I'm tempted to tell her to stick it up her arse anyway. But I need to be mature and bite my tongue don't I?

I have done it in the past. I had the fall back of knowing I could get some temp work though did not know how much, so could not rely on a steady income.

You need to part company with all involved being reasonably happy about it. So you give notice, work during the notice period, do your usual great job. You then up with luck that they will provide a reasonable reference based on how you have been during your time with them.

But what will you say when you're asked why you left in the next interview you go to? If you've got so many interviews lined up anyway you could have another job very soon, it's just not worth it in my opinion. In case it takes longer than you think to find a new job, you might end up with a gap on your CV that won't look good.

Perhaps that's a good compromise nanny.
I could give my notice tomorrow. At least knowing there's an end in sight might help me through the next few weeks.
Although I would only ever get a standard HR reference from the company stating the number of days worked and number of sick days taken (none), so perhaps I don't need to worry too much about the reference.

And I wouldn't actually tell her to stick it up her arse. I'd just politely return my keys and tell her I was going.

That's what worries me scandi. I don't want a gap in my cv. It's great that I've got some interviews, but nothing is guaranteed. I've been employed solidly for 20 years. This job has been a bit of a disaster if I'm honest. I wish I'd never taken it.

As its probation period, I think you can get away with simply saying the role differed from expectations and that you and the employer mutually agreed it was in the best interests of both parties to part ways. Probation works both ways :)

Its normal to leave a job that you are not happy. Job is like a rubber ball, when you let it go it will always bounce back to you. Don't worry.

It's a difficult one. I left a job once after 6 months because I just could not face it anymore my manager like yours was a real hole and it was so so hard. I had struggled a bit with work since but it had nothing to do with the fact I left that job but more with the fact I found out I was pregnant a week after I left :) But I later started my own business, that essentially reset my CV and none never asks me about that gap as I actually don't even put that job on my CV. If there is any way you might be able to do consulting, one or two jobs, you could actually cover that hole that way saying you were self employed, but I don't know your line of work so not sure if this is an option for you.
In general I don't recommend leaving a job before getting another however if its just not working to a level that is not healthy which it sounds like for you it is always better to leave before it gets nasty. You want to be the person having the upper hand in saying no and not the other way around.
