Probation period extended for one incident of illness

I am just asking if this is normal. I wont act either way as it wouldnt be wise to piss off employers but just want to know.

I started working in this company at the end of november. Probation period was 6 months. I broke my foot at the end of january and was signed off work for 8 weeks (although came back after 6 weeks) and my manager has informed me that due to this my probation period has been extended to 9 months. I could understand extending it by 6 weeks, the period which i was off work. Is this standard?

Maybe they're assuming you need a bit of time to come back up to speed.

I wouldn't worry to be honest, you don't have much protection against dismissal within the first two years of employment whether your in a probation period or not. You are no more or less easy to dismiss than someone who has completed their probation period but who still has less than 2 years service.

I came straight back to the same duties, sole responsibility for the shop etc. The only adjustment was that i was allowed to have a chair incase i needed it.

But yes i do take your point. I'm just trying to get an idea of the company tbh and if there are likely to be issues long term if i stay here.

I think it would be a pretty normal thing to do after an extended period of sickness.

There may even be procedures in place that mean their 'rules' say if more than x days sick, probationary period should be extended by y months.

I've just read your second post. Could you ask whether they are currently happy with your performance to set your mind at rest?

Ok thank you.
