Advantages of a salary?

That's it really. I just want to know as DP is currently applying for promotion & if he gets it he will get a salary, and I don't really understand why that is better than an hourly wage.

It doesn't change tax/ni rates etc but it might effect things like overtime etc. it at the moment, he gets paid an hourly rate regardless of hours he works, then you should check out what his new agreement will be once he goes to a salary to ensure that he will still get it rather than it be swallowed up in his contract and an increase if there is one. It also gives you a more solid standing I belive with things like mortgages as its a more solid basis than hourly especially if it changes from one month to next. And lastly you'll get a fixed amt weekly/mthly which should help you know where you are more easily!!

Thanks. I guess his contracted hours will go up then, as he says that he will have to do one weekend shift every week.
