Can I have some postive working from home feedback please?

Hello. I am thinking of asking to work from home for part of the week, maybe just one day, as I don't want to put DD in childcare all the time (she's only 6 months). My friend told me that at her work they can only work from home if their child is in childcare! So what's the point of that then? I'm pretty appalled by the attitude of some managers to flexible working. But what really gets me is the assumption that nothing would get done. It's not like all of them in the office are so amazingly productive - and the managers are the worst, wasting their time drinking coffee in meetings all day every day. There must be people out there, maybe who run their own businesses, who have managed to combine working with looking after the kids? Surely if anyone can do multi-tasking it's a mum!

I'd love to see something like that DominiConnor! Are you volunteering?

I've just re-read the thread and realised that a lot of the replies are making assumptions about my work that don't actually apply. eg I wouldn't be answering the phone, but making calls when convenient to me, and I wouldn't be trying to meet urgent deadlines. I agree that both of these would be out of the question. As for my DD's naps - I think I'm living the worst case scenario right now. She is a power napper who sleeps for 30mins at best. I think she only naps for about 1 to 1.5 hours in total each day so I don't think I have unrealistic expectations about the future. In fact I'm hoping that as she gets older she may cut down on the number of power naps and get in a couple of longer ones instead - that would be much more useful for getting work done.

Thanks for all your input. Nice to hear some more positive feedback just recently.
