About to start bank working with NHS - I am clueless please help@

To complicate matters I am also contracted 2 permanent days! I haven't worked at all for 10 years, let alone bank OR for the NHS and I'm utterly clueless about the whole system. Communication with this job/HR has been appalling so I don't trust them to give me info.
Can anyone advise if bank work is paid in with my salary monthly or will it be weekly? Am I still entitled to paid holiday while I'm working bank? It will be working across 2 wards so am unsure of who I would ask about this stuff anyway! Thanks! I might post more questions as they occur to me .

Bank work is paid monthly in a similar way to your permanent position. I'm not sure if it will be paid one month in arrears (January's shifts paid at the end of February) or in real time (January's shifts paid at the end of January) so you will need to check this with your ward sister. You will still accrue annual leave from your permanent post but will probably not be entitled to accrue annual leave on your bank post - I know this is how it works at my Trust. If you are entitled to annual leave on your bank post then it will be accrued at a rate such as 12 hours bank work = 1 hour annual leave. You won't be entitled to paid sick leave from the bank but will be from your permanent job ditto maternity leave etc.

Can I ask how you chose the job to apply for OP? I only ask as I feel I'm in a similar position, about to start looking for work next week actually, and haven't worked in 12 years. I'm terrified and have no idea what to even try to apply for!

Will you be working through nhs professionals? In our trust you are paid weekly for bank work, so best to check with them.

Generally speaking, the bank pay includes a holiday allowance, which in theory you should save to tide you over while on leave.

Check with HR about pay -in my Trust Bank is paid weekly, except for certain departments. I'm in ICU so we get a higher 'specialist' rate, which gets paid monthly in arrears (ie. Work in January, paid in February).

In my trust it's definitely in arrears.

You don't get paid bank hols BUT you get 'wte' pay. It's about 12.5% of gross. Makes a nice chunk. So you get paid what you put on time sheet then this lovely bonus amount too.

Oh and ours was monthly.

I think I'll need to speak to HR with the trust as it's looking like it varies then.
Snowflake I retrained as an OT and applied for a full time post - they offered someone who had more experience than me the full time position but offered me 2 days permanent and 3 days bank. It's an area I want to work in so took it to get experience. Are you looking to retrain or are you an hcp who wants to return to practice?
