If anyone has 2 minutes?... Never been signed off sick til today - how does ssp work?...

What do I need to do? It seems a bit confusing...

The first four days of SSP are unpaid. After that, it's £88 a week for up to 28 weeks. You only get paid SSP for the days you would normally have worked.

If you're eligible, it'll just be paid by your employer, on your normal payday. To be eligible, you need to be an employee, earn at least £112 before tax per week and been sick for 4 days in a row.

You need to tell your employer in writing that your sick, and enclose your fit note if you've got one. You should tell them within 7 days of being signed off, but the sooner the better.

That's all there is to it, really.
