Redundancy and notice whilst on maternity leave

I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant and know that I will be made redundant as of 31st December (my department is closing so my job will no longer exist after that date). I know that they will have to put me on notice before - do you know if this is paid at my usual salary or the SMP rate?
Also - do you know if they will have to pay the remainder of my SMP in a lump sum when I am made redundant or can I continue receiving it monthly? I am a little worried that if it is paid in a lump sum it will be massively taxed. I know I can eventually claim it back but it would be a financial hit at an already difficult time.
Any advice would be much appreciated!

If you are already on maternity leave I would have guessed that the amount will be calculated as per the SMP rate however (and as I'm definitely not sure) the best is checking with your HR department. They should also be able to answer your following question.
On a separate note, you cannot be made redundant just because you are pregnant or on Maternity as it would not be legal. Even if one department is closing there might be the option of transfer to another one and again worth checking with the HR.
Failing this as you have worked 26 weeks before the qualifying week (11 weeks before your baby is due) you are entitled to SMP. Once with Jobcentre believe this will continue be paid as such or just transfers to Maternity Allowance payments.

I'm in an similar situation, 31 weeks pregnant and they have not bothered to sort out my cover. When I asked I was told we are going to shut your side of the business as of 31st December. We will need you to come in and help wind it down. They have said they will look at alternative jobs but that doesn't help me as I work different hours to them atm and I've already paid my childcare for January based on my current hours.

I've been left to tell customers and suppliers it is closing. Stress I don't need atm.

I was made redundant (or rather I took voluntary redundancy following the 'at risk' consultation period) four months into my maternity leave. My enhanced maternity pay had ended after three months so I was on SMP by then. I was paid my notice period at full salary rate and received the remaining SMP as a lump sum.

I was also paid the 'return to work' bonus I would have received had I returned to work as planned. Make sure you get a clear breakdown of what you will receive and what will and won't be taxed.

Hi OP,

I was due to return to work on 6th October, but am going through redundancy at the moment. I found this website really helpful: www.maternityaction.org.uk/wp/advice-2/mums-dads-scenarios/pregnant/redundancy-during-pregnancy-and-maternity-leave/

It's a really shitty thing to happen, especially for you at the moment. I hope this link helps and wish you all the best x
