I have been trying to get appointed as charity trustee and NED with no luck (I have 15 years in the City)... any tips on how you (or anyone you know) has done it..?? Thanks

How senior do your peers on boards tend to be? Is there one or two things that they all have in common..?!?

They are very senior. It's a board of directors and a non exec must have the credibility, experience and knowledge in order to contribute. What they have in common is wide business experience (wide=insight into ops, marketing, finance, people,strategy etc) and successful track records.

how do you recruit NEDs from a representative background if they already have to have Executive experience?

Not asked of me, but wanted to answer. A NED needs exec experience - can't see what they would bring to the board otherwise. You would still look to have diversity and that would be built into selection process.
