Online training courses, are they worth the money?

I am looking to do some kind of work based qualification, such as a project management or agile course.

I work full time and the local college's don't do any courses I want at night, therefore I'm looking at online courses but they are very expensive. I don't mind if they will be relevant and useful but you get access for a year, what if I can't get it done or it's rubbish?

Has anyone done this?

Any advice gratefully received.

I've done the prince2 foundation through work when I was in project support but it's run out and I'm trying to progress, am currently in a small change manager role _ loose description so I don't out myself Smile

Thanks

I'd go for a place with a good reputation of online courses, and provides proper support.

You will have to remember that studying at home can be lonely and you will need discipline to keep up with the course work.

However, good places will offer a range of solutions for contact between students, with tutors, and material that is prepared specifically for distance learning.

They should give you an indication of how much time you will need to spend on it every day and every week to progress satisfactorily. Don't assume you will manage to do in 1 hour what they say takes 3 hours.

Thanks some good points there esp as I'm not the best at being motivated or staying motivated.

A good study plan might be a good start.

How do I know if the provider is any good?
Recruitment agencies offer courses but I don't know anyone thats taken one.

Also have a look at Coursera. Lots of free online courses by some top providers, such as Edinburgh Uni.

Not just Coursera - FutureLearn, EdX, Udacity - there are loads of online sites for MOOCs. I'd definitely start there before paying for anything.
