Hospital appointments for child and returning to work

I'm due to go back to work for the NHS in early febuary and I'm planning to return for 3, 10 hour shifts pw, instead of my previous 4, 10 hour shifts. However I need to ask for set days ie mon, tues, fri because I'm sharing child care with my sister.

The problem is my ds2 whos now 12 weeks old was born with talipes aka clubbed feet and has had weekly hospital appointments since birth. These are on a tuesday, by the time I go back to work the appointments should be 3 to 4 weekly but it can be variable depending on progress.

How do I stand legally on 1. requesting tuesday as a set day, and 2. entitlement to time of for childs appointments and are these payed or unpayed?

Any advice very welcome

Just want to get my facts straight before I approach my manager ( who I don't know that well as he started whilst I was pregnant)
