If you have taken maternity leave therefore your employer assuming you will return after a year what happens if during this time you decide not to return, How and when do u inform your employer and how will it affect your right to receive maternity pay? (It is only smp no extra from employer).

It won't affect basic maternity pay. You are required to give your contractural notice allowing sufficient time before your return date. Bear in mind that although Smp stops after 9 months any benefits and pensionable service continue.

After your 9 months just say your not returning let them know about 8 months along they don't ask for money back or anything at all they will give a good reference for future.
