I'm currently on maternity leave with my 19 week old DS1. My current job is peripatetic teaching and is reasonably flexible/ low responsibility.
A position has become available which would mean committing to 4 days per week, plus prep etc at home. It's further from home. It is also the sort of job I have always wanted. Even without a baby I think starting this sort of job would be very stressful and my lovely son has so far been extremely unsettled and demanding (we're finally getting to the bottom of his reflux after months of screaming and poor sleep). He'd be 11 months when I started work.
Am I crazy to be thinking of going for this job? Without my son I wouldn't think twice. Even with him, it's a fantastic move long-term: I'd be bringing home a salary rather than hourly pay, and it's a school I'd gladly send him to when the time comes.
What's it like returning to work while parenting a 1 year-old baby? I realise in other countries mothers return to work much sooner but having never had a baby before I have no idea how much he'll change between now and then. Is it manageable/desirable/awful to put him in nursery 4 days a week? This would only be in term time.
Sorry for the barrage of questions - please feel free to tell me now is a terrible time for a total career upgrade. Alternatively, feel free to tell me it's a great idea: I've always wanted this sort of job.
